Those who drink coffee understand its beauty. Such wonderful beans of coffee on earth are no less than happiness for many. But ever wondered what all those difficult-pronouncing names for coffee are all about?
As you may know the making process of these coffees together with the types of flavours added in them makes a difference. Here we make it easier for you to understand the difference among Mocha, Cappuccino, Frappe, Latte and Espresso.
Espresso:
Many people talk about espresso, but what is it? Espresso is a special style of coffee drink that is ‘extracted’ from an espresso machine which is designed for this single purpose. Espresso (ess-PRESS-oh) is a pure-flavored, concentrated form of coffee which is usually served in “shots.” It is made by forcing pressurized, hot water through coffee beans and it has more caffeine than other coffee beverages.
Latte:
A latte is a coffee drink made of steamed milk and with espresso. Latte in English is a shortened form of the Italian caffè latte, caffelatte or caffellatte which means “milk coffee”. In short, it is a creamier version of coffee.
Frappe:
Frappé coffee is a Greek foam-covered iced coffee made from instant coffee (usually spray-dried), sugar and water. Interestingly, Frappe was accidentally invented by a Nescafe representative named Dimitris Vakondios in 1957 in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. Initially, Frappe was more specifically popular in Greece and Cyprus. The word frappé is coined from the French word frapper, which means , ‘to hit’ as crushed ice does when blended with a drink and shaken in a cocktail shaker.
Caffè Mocha:
A caffè mocha also called mocaccino, is a chocolate-flavored type of a caffè latte. Perfect for chocolate-lovers, this coffee is made by blending chocolate and hot milk with a delightful variant of latte; topped with dark chocolate. It is also known as mochaccino or mochachino. Its name is derived from the city of Yemen called Mocha as it was one of the main centers of early coffee trade.
Cappuccino:
An espresso-based coffee drink originally from Italy, Cappuccino is traditionally prepared with steamed milk foam and an espresso shot which is quite stronger than Latte. Its name comes from the Capuchin monks because the colour of the espresso mixed with frothed milk was similar to the color of the Capuchin robe.
So next time when you press a button in your coffee machine, you would know what exactly you are drinking.
